Jalen Hill, former UCLA basketball player, dies at 22

Jalen Hill, a former UCLA men’s basketball player, passed away on Tuesday night at 22. There are few details regarding Hill’s cause of death, although his relatives told the Los Angeles Times that Hill had vanished in Costa Rica. Hill, a center and forward, signed with the Bruins in 2017 and played for three seasons before departing in 2021 due to mental health issues, according to the LA Times.

Jalen Hill garnered attention worldwide in 2017 after getting involved in a shoplifting incident while traveling to Hangzhou, China with UCLA as part of a cultural exchange program. Hill, along with his teammates LiAngelo Ball and Cody Riley, was later suspended due to the incident.

“It breaks my heart to learn about Jalen Hill’s passing. At this time, our hearts and prayers are with his family. Mick Cronin, head coach of the UCLA men’s basketball team, tweeted. “Jalen was a kind-hearted young man who left us far too soon. He had a lovely smile.”
